I’ll probably still use Dynalist for some things - especially since for teaching I often need to load outlines on a Windows computer, but I’m going to give using Outlinely as my primary outliner a try and see how that goes…ĭynalist is a decent app, but I didn’t go far using it. However, it wasn’t hard to figure out a workaround for this. The only stumbling block was that while you can export and import individual OPML files one-by-one, there is no way to easily bulk import your entire Dynalist folder. ![]() I was also happy to see that for those of us who don’t like subscriptions, there is a reasonably priced “lifetime subscription” which is a single payment of a little less than $35 to unlock iCloud sync and all restrictions on the iOS app. So as someone who needs iOS support, the only rational decision seems to be to move back from Dynalist to Outlinely. At the same time, Outlinely seems to be getting regular updates again. Laptop bans in class seem to be topic of the week: Fewer links this week, as I get on with other things. It doesn’t look like the folks at Dynalist have any interest in making any significant updates to their horrendous iOS app. Why I’m Not a Fan of Laptop Bans | Confessions of a Community College Dean - Naturally, I’m not a fan either. ![]() Neither can I concede the point about not shining a light on accessibility users. I can’t see a way in which a ban that included an exception for only a few users with different abilities wouldn’t be a floodlight that says ‘this person is not the same’. Here’s an idea, make your class interesting enough for students to pay attention and you won’t have as many on Facebook. Sure, that’s not easy, but banning technology won’t make your material worth absorbing. Lecture, Attention, Recall … It’s Complicated | Just Visiting – I’ve been thinking a lot about attention lately, and very little about teaching. Then again, I have plenty of thoughts on teaching to turn to. One recurring thought is triggered when I hear this nonsense about banning devices I lectures. But, when I come across such a proposal, it recalls the overwhelming sense one gets that universities, and their most institutionalised educators are so often of the mind that there is something wrong with the student. I call bullshit, which is why I was so pleased to read this paragraph: Indeed they must be saved from attention grabbing technology. If we’re going to lecture, aren’t we better striving for triggering a mind-blowing experience and not worry so much about recall. Let the mind-blowing experience that sends the student into a vortex of thought and reflection so deep they can’t pay attention to whatever else is happening be our goal. “I Am Root”: A Retrospective on a Severe Mac Vulnerability | the Mac Security Blog – Some more detailed information on that root bug, and the machinations that caused it. For a start, I find the idea that so-called university leaders are usually skeptical of corporate partnerships to be a spurious claim. ![]() The corporatisation of the University is well documented. The business school at the University of Auckland is notorious for having used McDonalds branded course materials, on top of which they gave new meaning to content marketing by using the same company for examples in examinations. ![]()
